Major TODs underway in metro area


Transit-oriented development that takes advantage of the numerous benefits of proximity to MARTA heavy-rail stations is taking place in several metro-area submarkets, with projects varying widely in scope and scale undertaken by private developers, corporate America, MARTA itself, and combinations thereof. Atlanta has arguably been fertile ground for TOD since the late 1800s. Development icon Joel Hurt put transit and real estate together in 1889 when he linked Inman Park, a residential suburb he had developed, with the city of Atlanta proper via a streetcar line operated by his Atlanta and Edgewood Street Railway Co.
