Sep. 2009 - Cooper Carry Atlanta Relocates Downtown
Cooper Carry celebrates its fiftieth year, and the principles of sustainable and transit-oriented development, by relocating its Atlanta office to Downtown.
Atlanta, Georgia - 9/10/2009 - Cooper Carry, the Atlanta-based architecture and design firm, is celebrating its fiftieth year by moving from its 25-year Buckhead headquarters into new, sustainably-designed office space in the heart of Downtown Atlanta. The new space, designed to achieve a LEED-CI Platinum designation, and set in a walkable, transit-accessible area of the city center, this relocation will bring an additional firm to downtown Atlanta, furthering the downtown areas revitalization.
Kevin Cantley, Cooper Carry's President, notes that the move, which has been planned for years, reflects some of the firms most fundamental values. "We are demonstrating to employees, the city, and our clients our core beliefs about sustainability and alternative modes of transportation," he says. "Being a part of a vibrant urban center is just one way we 'walk the talk' about connectedness and sustainable design. Additionally, we've pledged our involvement in the AIA's Architecture 2030 Project, which seeks to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of every involved entity by the year 2030."
Cooper Carry's new offices, at 191 Peachtree, encourages employees to commute via mass transit, and embodies a legacy of transit-oriented development leadership that is reflected in the design of more than 75 transit-oriented environments around the country. This focus is clearly demonstrated in Atlanta, where the firm was integral in the design of seven MARTA stations, in Underground Atlanta, and in the massive transformation of the Lindbergh transit center from a park-and-ride station to a thriving urban village - the city's first development of its kind. Its also demonstrated in Cooper Carry's New York office's design of Amtraks North Side Pittsburgh Station; in the Washington D.C. offices design of North Bethesda, MDs Town Center as a mixed-use, transit-oriented development; and in its Newport Beach office's recent commission for the design of San Bernandino, CA's Intermodal Transit Station and Village.
In tough economic times, such agile forward movement is rare. Cantley sees Cooper Carry's sustainable focus and passion for transit-oriented development solutions as a vital boon to both clients and the cities they call home, whatever the particular economic circumstances. "This is a trend that we identified in advance of much of the profession; and we remain committed to creating more sustainable communities connected to transit," he says. "As the economy rebounds, this commitment will continue to benefit our clients, and our communities."
Cooper Carry will move into its new offices at 191 Peachtree on September 21, 2009.
