The fifth largest mall in America and considered a fashion icon by many, the Houston Galleria has undergone an 818,000 square foot renovation and a 240,000 square foot expansion of gross leasable area. Cooper Carry renovated the existing common mall area and added 80 shops and two anchor stores. Rooted in classic modern architecture, the Galleria’s renovation and expansion is designed with clean, contemporary lines resulting in a timeless look. A sense of elegance, refined finishes and a distinctive use of natural light unifies the entire Galleria.
The expansion is on two mall levels over a two-level parking garage of approximately 880 cars and provides additional small shops and both a Nordstrom and Foley’s department stores. The expansion uses the same materials, and wherever possible, the same details as the renovated mall. A 20-foot diameter water feature activates the court at Foley’s department store where water falls 50 feet in a computerized, choreographed pattern. The project received the 2004 Superior Achievement in Design & Imaging (SADI) Award.
