Emory's new Math & Science building provides space for teaching, research and interaction for multiple science disciplines including a 3,000 square foot “Virtual Sciences Library,” a 40-seat Distance Learning classroom, a 60-person Planetarium and a 20-person Observatory facility. The Virtual Sciences Library offers technology, staff and reference support for Emory's physical science community, the Distance Learning Classroom allows users to originate video and audio conferences and the Observatory houses a two-meter Cassegrain telescope. The 35-foot diameter, 60-seat Planetarium is designed to function as both an A/V equipped classroom and an astronomy teaching laboratory. Designed for sustainability and LEED certification, the project received the 2001 Governor's Award for Pollution Prevention, the 2002 Award of Excellence from the ACI and the 2002 Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects, Georgia Chapter.
