A glamorous urban style reborn with the Lazarus Department Store in downtown Pittsburgh’s Fifth Avenue shopping district. Created with traditional materials, but shaped by a modern architectural style, Lazarus brings new sophistication to its established urban context. It is the first freestanding department store constructed in downtown in 25 years. Exterior glass and dramatic interior lighting create new energy along the adjoining streets and sidewalks for pedestrian traffic. The modern architectural language of the building design is prominent, making it distinguishable from its neighbors and the use of glass plays a dominant role to define corner entrances and offer pedestrians a peek into the store. At night the light shining through the glass creates excitement along the streets and sidewalks.
Pittsburgh Lazarus received the Design Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Architects, Georgia Chapter; Retail Store of the Year from Chain Store Age Magazine and First Place for Superior Achievement in Design & Imaging (SADI).
