Cooper Carry has recently been awarded Pre-Development, Conceptual Design, and Visioning Services for a San Bernardino, California Transit Station and Transit Village.
Transit centers in major cities worldwide act as hubs for the connection of various transportation modes. They also serve as catalysts for vital transit-oriented development, and create vibrant pedestrian spaces surrounding the centers. A modern multi-modal Transit Station will improve bus and rail service to downtown San Bernardino and provide a seamless connection to the regional rail and bus transit services linking San Bernardino to the rest of the Southern California region. The Station and Village will reduce non-transit vehicle usage and highway congestion, and improve air quality in the region. It will alleviate blight and revitalize the surrounding area, while serving as a catalyst for new residential and commercial development in downtown San Bernardino.
The goal of the services to be delivered for this project is the conceptual design and visioning of several alternative development plans for the Station and TOD Village, leading to: (1) selection of a preferred alternative; and the option to (2) complete the preliminary design and engineering for the Station, and (3) complete the creation of a development plan for the Transit Village.
Upon conclusion of the preliminary design and engineering services delivered under this contract, Omnitrans will then be able to issue a separate RFP for the final design and engineering of the Station. This will include preparation of the construction plans and specifications for bidding.
The services requested consist of two major components: (1) the services required to develop at least three alternative conceptual plans for the Transit Center and Transit Village and the services/analysis required to enable Omnitrans’ Board of Directors to select a preferred alternative; and (2) after the preferred alternative is selected, the services required to take the Transit Center through the completion of preliminary design and engineering, and the services required to create a development plan for the adjacent TODs. The services shall also include supporting the Project Development Team with its consulting, Final Design team.
