Higher end shoppers were leaving Charlottesville to shop 70 miles away in Richmond. In order to attract the quality tenants necessary to give these higher end shoppers a reason to stay in Charlottesville, not only did the mall need to be renovated, but it had to be renovated in a way that was meaningful to the community. With a nod to Thomas Jefferson’s influence on the architecture of the area, a design was developed to refer to this history while creating an environment that was upscale, modern and forward-looking.
