Georgia Tech, Family Apartments

Location Atlanta, Georgia
Project Scope
392,000 SF, 647 beds
BOR / Georgia Tech Foundation / Georgia Institute of Technology

The Family Apartments project replaced existing housing at the Callaway and Healey sites along 10th street with 647 beds in 398 new housing units totaling approximately 382,000 gross square feet, with a 10,000 gross square foot daycare space and an 800 car parking structure. The project incorporates seven buildings ranging in size from three to six stories. The six story building contains one bedroom apartments. The three story buildings are intended for families with children, all of which are two bedroom units. As part of our site analysis, Cooper Carry surveyed the existing trees, identified the finest specimens, and developed planning options that used them as a primary organizer of the site plan. The site design created intimate courtyards for semiprivate use, as well as a larger common courtyard. The buildings were carefully placed to work around the existing trees, and to take maximum advantage of the steep sloping site and the opportunities it provided.

Cooper Carry delivered an efficient and well planned facility for our students that fits in, works well and exceeds our expectations.”
