The Georgia Military and Veterans Education and Training Support Center is a joint initiative between USG and TCSG and the Governor’s Office. Middle Georgia State College (MGSC) serves with Central Georgia Technical College to address the academic and social support needs of the veterans; primarily those whose deployments are ending or have ended recently. The center serves veterans and their families in a “one stop-one shop” environment for work force training. According to the HIRE HEROS USA, 32,000 new veterans will join the ranks of already 1 million veterans already unemployed. Veterans often have difficulty translating their military knowledge and skills into a professional employment-based profile that will open doors to companies. According to “Best for Vets 2013 Employers Report” many companies accept military experience instead of certification. However, companies struggle to align the veteran’s experience with the knowledge and skills needed for the position. The military is currently investing in “military occupation specialties translators” whose function is to generate a list of civilian occupations that align with his/her experiences.
