North Bethesda Town Center

Bethesda, MD

In the spirit of the Washington region’s increasingly compact growth, LCOR Inc., retained Cooper Carry to master plan a transit-oriented development on LCOR property at the White Flint Metrorail Station in Bethesda, Maryland. In conjunction with WMATA, LCOR reclaimed 20 acres of land that included natural woods and commuter surface parking to create a Main Street mixed-use development. The program includes 928,000 square feet of office space; 202,000 square feet of retail space; and a 220,000-square-foot Westin Hotel. An additional apartment tower with 1,275 units is currently under construction, along with a Harris Teeter grocery store. The development sits off Rockville Pike, which originates as Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown. The site is bounded on the North and South by Old Georgetown Road and Marinelli Road, sitting due east of the new Montgomery County Conference Center. A bridge from Rockville Pike crosses the Metrorail line to tie into the pedestrian-friendly Main Street. The street is bounded by a natural forest preserve, and culminates in a residential community green.
