The George Washington University Collections and Conservation Resource Center

Ashburn, VA

Cooper Carry provided full architectural services for a Museum Conservation Center and Research Facility on George Washington University’s Science and Technology Campus located in Ashburn, Virginia. The facility is comprised of approximately 20,000 square-feet of museum support space and approximately 30,000 square-feet of academic incubation space. The museum support space serves as a processing and storage space for collections and includes an educational component for research and scholarship. The academic space was designed as “shell” to start, and as programs are identified for inclusion in the building, interior space design and build-out will ensue. The building is considered “scalable” so far as the academic incubation space is concerned, providing the opportunity for a future addition. The GWU collections and conservation resource center houses a variety of collections, which include graphic and textile arts, paintings, sculpture and other items.
