The Lovett School Campus Plan

Atlanta, GA

Cooper Carry collaborated with The Lovett School in developing a master plan for its 105-acre campus. The plan included creating learning environments, recreational spaces, and programming along the river that borders the school. Our team conducted a thorough campus study and developed short- and long-term frameworks to identify potential projects over the next 30 years. The plan aimed to improve the campus's relationship with its natural setting by enhancing views, pedestrian connections, and architectural additions.

Activities carried out as part of the master plan included stakeholder engagement sessions with students and faculty, program development, and site evaluation. The team coordinated closely with leadership, the board, and the faculty to determine priorities and timelines. Cooper Carry worked with Brasfield and Gorrie to evaluate cost models and refine design priorities.

Lovett's unique site, situated along the banks of the Chattahoochee River, required careful understanding and planning from Cooper Carry's landscape team, Civil Engineers, and local authorities.

As a result of the campus plan, the following projects have been completed and are being implemented:

  • Loop Road is a new one-way road that diverts traffic away from the center of campus and creates more pedestrian-friendly green space.
  • The Parking Deck, completed in 2024, significantly increases Lovett's parking capacity.
  • Rollins Hall, projected to be completed by the 2026-2027 school year, will be the new front door to the campus, welcoming visitors and providing inspiring, creative spaces for students. The new facility will house state-of-the-art maker spaces, a new learning commons, enhanced dining areas, a light-filled Chapel, fine arts classrooms, and open spaces.
  • The Enhanced Lawn, projected to be completed by the 2026-2027 school year, will create a larger quad shared by all three academic divisions, eroding any sense of separation between the buildings.
