Nick Igel co-founded 505Design and served as Partner until 2023, when he became a member of the Cooper Carry team. As a principal at Cooper Carry, Nick brings almost 40 years of design experience in retail, residential, office, and mixed-use projects. At the beginning of the design process, Nick seeks out the story or narrative of a project, connecting to its region and culture. With the intent of letting the story drive the aesthetics and the feel of the place, he looks for multiple connections to the audience. Nick believes the client and the audience are the most important influences on the idea and aesthetic of a place, as opposed to a trend or architectural style. Nick advocates that reading, writing, observation, and travel help expand the design vocabulary available to every designer. It’s about what we notice more than what we know.

Nick began his informal architectural education and affinity for creating as a child building with wooden blocks. He completed his formal education in Architecture at Kansas State University. Nick is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He has lived in Boulder, Colorado for the last 37 years and enjoys hiking, telemark skiing, mountain biking, playing guitar, reading, and traveling.
