University of West Georgia Campus Center

Carrollton, Georgia

The University of West Georgia’s Campus Center project included the phased renovation of the existing Health and Physical Education building and new construction that surrounds and expands the existing facility. New program elements include two additional basketball courts, fitness climbing wall, 1/8 mile running track, aerobic spaces, recreational spaces, administrative offices, a 600 banquet seat ballroom with multipurpose meeting rooms and support spaces. The project formed an edge of a new central campus green space and serves to connect academic, residential and athletic precincts on campus. The central gallery served as a main gathering place, spatial reference and organizing element for the campus.

The creativity, diligence, thoughtfulness, and consideration in the design have been invaluable. Cooper Carry has a great team that has produced a wonderful design for our ‘signature’ building. This was a wonderful year in the history of UWG. We made a great selection in retaining Cooper Carry. — Michael R. Renfrow, former Assistant Vice President, Campus Planning and Facilities, University of West GeorgiaAwards
