Amber Grace Community at Berry College

Rome, GA

The Amber Grace Community at Berry College is a welcoming and supportive place to live for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It offers a sense of belonging and independence, while also promoting a strong community spirit. Designed by Cooper Carry, the community is centered around a village green, which serves as a vibrant hub that encourages walkability and social interaction. The community pathways, much like residential streets, connect all parts of the community, making it easy for residents to feel connected and part of something bigger.

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the welcome center and the front entrance. The community chapel is located at the front and provides a space for prayer and reflection. The village green is the heart of the community, where residents can gather in the dining hall, attend an art class, enjoy a sunny afternoon by the pool or meet with their mentor. The community center is a bustling hub of activity and learning, designed to enhance the residents' educational experiences. The multi-purpose classrooms offer practical learning opportunities, while also hosting social events and fitness classes, ensuring a well-rounded lifestyle. The on-site health care and cosmetology studio provide convenient access to personal care services, giving residents peace of mind about their well-being.

The pedestrian paths off the village green lead to homes where groups of people can live together. The homes are paired to create shared courtyards that allow residents to establish meaningful connections. The community has eight homes that can accommodate up to 48 residents.
