North Carolina Central University, Student Housing Complex

Durham, NC

Cooper Carry collaborated with Vines Architecture to provide architecture and design services for a new on-campus student housing complex at North Carolina Central University. The project comprises of three six-story residential buildings that provide much-needed informal social and group meeting spaces, dining, and retail food options.

The new buildings offer options for students in every year of their college careers. The George Street Residential Complex provides semi-suite units for first and second-year students. The Lawson Street Residential Complex features apartment-style units for upper-division students and includes a 7,3000-square-foot dining facility. The Alston Avenue Apartments consist of four-bedroom units with two bathrooms, full kitchens, and shared amenities such as computer stations, multipurpose rooms, and lounges.

This project is a result of a public-private partnership between North Carolina Central University and Corvias, which provides property management operations and development services. Corvias retained Metcon (general contractor), Vines Architecture (prime architect), Cooper Carry (design architect), and others to successfully finance, develop, design, and build the new housing complex.
