Atlanta’s Central Library renovation takes first step forward
The next chapter of the Central Library in downtown is about to begin, with the announcement of the team selected to lead a major renovation and restoration of the architecturally significant building.
According to a post on the Facebook page of FOCAL – Friends of the Central Atlanta Library, local architecture firm Cooper Carry, along with Raleigh-based Vines Architecture, has been chosen to lead the programming and early design phases of the project.
Last year, the building made headlines far and wide when it was revealed that some leaders wished to see it demolished.
The final built work of internationally renowned architect Marcel Breuer, the library is regarded by many as a Brutalist gem. Some in the community might decry it as a heavy, grey rock, but experts call the structure a diamond in the rough.
