Kimpton Shane Hotel at Midtown Union

The Kimpton Shane Hotel is part of a large urban mixed-use community located in the heart of the Atlanta Arts District called Midtown Union. The project also includes office and residential. This 230-key hotel extends the functionality of the office by providing convenient accommodations for those travelling to town for meetings with tenants. Additional amenities include a boardroom, meeting spaces, and pre-function areas, as well as a bar and restaurant.

EOA created the original concept of the design – a sleek, rectangular tower with linear, reflective glazing. We used this design to optimize the size of the king bedrooms, as well as the efficiency of the building by reducing heat gain from the glazing. Large windows provide optimum views of the area throughout the property. The design concept contrasted with the style of the other two buildings to maintain a sense of uniqueness that is valued by the arts community.

To accommodate EOA's concept and small size of the parcel, we moved the site four feet. Located next to the valet space and the newly created median of Arts Center Way, our design team fashioned a curvilinear, sculptural canopy that resembled undulating waves of fabric. This unique element was crafted with stucco and seamlessly fabricated by the construction team, illustrating the cohesive communications that made this project a success.

Studio 11 Design created an interiors concept around the style of an art gallery, with tall, white walls and curated art pieces. We hid necessary building components, like electrical and lighting, to maintain the streamlined style. The hotel seamlessly integrates into the development as well as the community.
